“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14: 27 KJV)
As many of you know, our farm suffered a tragedy in the form of the loss of several of our animals Sunday evening. While I do not place animals on the same level as humans, I do believe that they can be very dear to us and their loss can be crushing. In the midst of loss it can be greatly comforting to lean on the promise of peace that Jesus promises us. As Christians we can lean on God in times of sadness, loss, or troubles. God can grant us peace and comfort our hearts in a way that no human can. Jesus promises us that his peace is everlasting. We can rest assured of the fact that Jesus’ peace will carry us through until we are reunited with Him in heaven. The peace and comfort that the world can give is ephemeral. It is much like our time on this earth, gone in the blink of an eye. So while I am grateful for the comfort and peace that I gain through the love of my other pets, my friends, my family, and my beloved wife, I am also greatly relieved to know that I have a greater peace that will last for eternity, from now until I am called to stand before my savior and I can bask in his glory and know nothing but his love and the joy of praising him and worshipping at his feet. That is a peace that lets my heart not be troubled. Have a great day and God bless.
