Part of our reasoning behind starting our farmstead on our little piece of land is because we felt led by God to do so. It gives us an opportunity to grow in our faith as a family. As part of my personal walk with God I read the scriptures everyday (or at least I try to. I don’t claim to be perfect and I do sometimes miss my daily reading). As I was reading my Bible a few nights ago I felt lead by the Lord to introduce a new post segment but before I explain that to you I would like to first share the inspiration for the new segment.
As the Israelites wandered in the desert, God promised to provide sustenance for them and did so in the form of manna (a kind of bread-like substance) every morning and quail every evening.
“And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up , and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.
And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.
And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat.” (Exodus 16:13-15 KJV).
You see, God promises to always provide for us and just as he provided manna for the Israelites, so to does his word provide manna for our soul.

What does this have to do with homesteading? For me they go hand in hand. Homesteading feeds our physical body and scriptural reading feeds our hearts and souls. They go together and serve to enhance one another. Homesteading makes us practice things that were everyday life for the people of biblical times and often the scriptures reference things that as homesteaders we can better understand through that connection. Many of Jesus’ references or parables had to do with daily living that society no longer practices, but as homesteaders, we do. It gives us a unique frame of mind to approach the scriptures. Many scriptures that I am reading now I have read before but I now have a completely different understanding of them and how they apply to me vs how they might have applied to my daily life before homesteading.
What exactly will the new segment be? I plan to introduce Manna Monday’s. Any scripture that I feel lead by the Lord to share I will post up on Monday’s. If I feel lead to share my thoughts on that scripture I will, and if I only feel lead to share the scripture that is what I will do. I sincerely hope that many of you will find inspiration, affirmation, and/or encouragement from the new segment. See you on Monday. Have a great day and God bless!
