I’m going to let you in on a little secret. This recipe for fresh apple bread comes from the family recipe book and this recipe hasn’t been shared with anyone before it went into the book. In fact the contributing family member even made a note at the bottom of the recipe, “This is the first time I have given this recipe to ANYONE.” So don’t tell anyone that I’m sharing it, or I might have to enter the witness protection program…..
Ok. That aside I’ll now share with you the super secret, heavily guarded fresh apple bread recipe. At the end of the post I’ll have a recipe card with all the ingredients and the full recipe.
Sugar Mixture
For starters we will be making a sugar mixture. You will need:
- 3 cups of sugar
- 1 cup Wesson oil
- 4 eggs, well beaten
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp rum extract (optional)
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and cream. Set aside.
Flour Mixture
In a separate bowl combine:
- 3-1/2 cups flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp allspice
- 1/2 tsp cloves
Putting Together the Fresh Apple Bread
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Take a cup of finely chopped apples and coat them with the flour mixture and set them aside.
Combine the sugar mix and the remaining flour mix. Add 2/3 cup of water and 16 oz of apple sauce. Mix well. Add two cups of finely chopped pecans (optional) and the chopped, flour coated apples. Mix well.
Grease and flour your pans. Place your bread mixture in the pans and bake at 350 degrees for approximately 45 minutes or until done.
Cool on rack. Loosen very carefully and remove from pan.
This recipe will make 9 mini fresh apple bread loaves, 5 small loaves, or 3 regular loaves. The mini loaves make a wonderful Christmas gift.
