Haha! You read right. We built a playground for our goats. Our chicken coop has a ramp outside leading to a pop hole in the side wall of the coop. The chickens could barely use the ramp or pop hole because the goats would not stay off the ramp. They are, after all, goats and goats love to climb and play. So when I had the opportunity to salvage a large wooden playscape, it crossed my mind that I might use some of it for a small goat playscape. That’s exactly what I ended up doing.
I used one of the playscape towers which included a 2″ x 6″ deck frame, 2″ x 6″ deck boards, 4″ x 4″ corner posts, 2″ x 4″ rails, and 1″ x 6″ wall boards and ramp boards. The only thing I had to purchase (because I already had screws and nails on hand) were two rafter hangers to attach the ramp.
At this point it was simply a matter of putting the already assembled pieces together. As the ramp was a bit steep and could be slick in the rain, I attached a couple of cleats to the ramp to give the goats hooves some traction. They couldn’t be happier with their little playground, the chickens are happy to have their ramp back, and I was able to accomplish all this in a very short amount of time. So do you have a goat playground? We would love to hear from you! Have a great day and God bless!
