Covering the Brooding Area with a Screen
As the chicks get older they will reach a point where they are capable of jumping out of the brooding area. If you are keeping your chicks in the house for the early stages of their life like we do, you probably don’t want them running around the house pooping everywhere and leaving feathers on everything. A window screen makes a great cover for the brooding area. Our garden tub is large enough that a window screen won’t cover it but we fortunately have a large screen from a sliding door and it works perfect to cover the entire brooding area.
