“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.” (Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2)
I was reminded of this verse today when I was watering the garden. I noticed that most of my garden is dying. The watermelon vines that just a few days ago were green and thriving have put off the last of their fruit and are turning brown and shriveling up. My cucumber vines are no longer yielding a crop and the blueberry bushes are not giving fruit. For a moment I was a bit melancholy. Summer is past, fall has set in, and soon the garden will yield no crops. The grass will die back, the weeds I have fought so hard against will die away and all will be left brown. This verse is a reminder that in our lives seasons will come and go. Seasons where things in our lives blossom and grow; and times where things seem stagnant or dead. Seasons where we feel like everything is a battle and seasons of rest. One of the most important things that my garden and this verse taught me today is that no season remains for ever. The garden will enter the season of winter with the promise that spring will come anew and it is my prayer that the next time my life enters a season of winter I will hold on to the promise that it too shall pass into a spring. Have a great day and God bless!
